MATER LITTLE MIRACLES

Jessica Simmonds"I like catching up with friends I met at the Mater Hospitals. Every year thousands of children and babies come to the Mater from all over Queensland to get help when they’re sick.”

Babies and children cared for at the Mater are affectionately known as Mater Little Miracles. Each and every one of the Mater’s little patients is a miracle—from the hour-old baby in the Mater Mothers’ Hospital to kids battling serious illness in the Mater Children’s.

Did you know each year the Mater Children’s Hospital provides exceptional care to over 130,000 children and the Mater Mothers’ Neonatal Critical Care Unit provides specialist care to 2,000 premature and seriously ill babies.

Mater Little Miracles fundraising centres around two key events, the Mater Little Miracles Easter Appeal and Mater Little Miracles 5ks. These events provide an opportunity to help the Mater deliver exceptional healthcare to some of the state’s sickest children and premature babies.

One little miracle is Jessica Simmonds. She was born at 25 weeks gestation weighing a tiny 382 grams. Jessica is the smallest baby girl ever to be born at the Mater and survive. Read her story / view a video story from The Courier Mail.
